Driftwood Public Library

Celebration of Reading

Continues

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

Begins at 4:00 p.m.

Driftwood Public Library continues its celebration of reading as it hosts another Lincoln County author in April. On Wednesday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m., the library welcomes Jack Judge, author of the memoirs Mojac’s Megan and Another Time, Another Place (see http://www.jackjudgeonline.com/ ).

Judge hails originally from Toronto where he served with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets before moving to California during World War II. Once in America he joined the Air Force in 1947 and spent most of his military career in Alaska. Upon returning to the “lower 48”, Jack spent some time trying to make a career with exotic animals and monkeys, but decided that as much fun as he was having, he needed to buckle down and earn a living. He started in Car sales, but soon was persuaded by his future wife to become a teacher. The two of them taught in the public schools of Salem for 23½ years before they retired in 1986. Both Jack and Mollie love meeting up with former students and learning where their lives have taken them.

Since retirement Jack has written two autobiographical books, one of his Air Force adventures in Alaska and another on raising sheep in the Silverton Hills under the guidance of his Border collie, Megan.

Attendance to Jack’s appearance at Driftwood is free and open to the public. Please join him as he talks of his life’s adventures and also of the craft of writing.

Driftwood Public Library is located on the second floor of the Lincoln City Civic Center at 801 SW Highway 101 (next to Price and Pride). This event will be held in the Distad Reading Room on the North End of the Library. Any questions should be directed to the Adult Services Coordinator, Ken Hobson. His phone number is 996-1242 or he can be reached by e-mail at khobson@driftwoodlib.org.
